Esther 4

Esthers story is packed with many teachable moments. Esther came from a minority ethnic group. The King had chosen her to become his wife without knowing she was a Jew. As a women of a minority this was a big deal. She was going to marry a King.

Later on in the chapter Queen Esther hears news of the royal advisors plan to eliminate her people. I believe at this moment she was frightened and hesitant on what she should do. Should she speak up? Should she say something to them? Ultimately Esther came to a decision. She spoke up

From this chapter in the book of Esther I was able to take something different from her story. There is many things we can learn and take from the book of Esther. Paticularly in this story Esther did not let her "label" as a Jewish women define her. The royal advisors had plans to completly eliminate her people. I could only imagine what she was feeling. She was safe but what about the rest of her people? It was unfair and simply unjust. Esther being a Jew herself, I believe, could have been enough of a reason for Esther to maybe second guess herself and even so her identity. On the contrary Esther recognized that her identity was found in Christ and in Christ alone. She was equipped with courage, wisdom and integrity as she approached the King and interceded for her people.

Esther did not let her "label" define her. She was a women, a Jew and well a minority amongst all the royal advisors. But she did not let that stop her, she did not let what others thought of her to be the reason to stop her. I can bet you there was talk about her throughout the palace yet she fasted and equipped herself with Gods armor.

We can get so caught up with lables in this world. Everything and everyone seems to define themselves and others with a label. We can get so caught up with what we are define ourself as or what others are labeling us or thinking of us that we can lose sight of where our true identity comes from. Our true identity comes from God. Our identity, strength, wisdom, and courage is all found in Christ alone. So next time you second guess yourself because others are talking about you or are busy trying to define you, remember that your identity is found in Christ. It is not found in anyone else but in Him and that is the best identity you could ever ask for.
