1 Samuel 1:1-20
Like I said a couple blog post sago I am reading about different in the bible and well let me tell you there is a lot of them. I was reading about Hannah and found her story to be a great reminder that maybe some of us may need to hear. I recommend that you read the whole story yourself, I only give some of the background details but if you read the chapter you won’t be disappointed.
Hannah faced a lot of anger, sadness and pain as she could not have a child of her own. The scripture says she even sometimes would not even eat because of how much it affected her. I can tell you this that in the past there have been times where I may have gotten super upset over a situation that I just skipped a meal because I was that bothered by it. Was it the best solution? No. Did it do anything to make me feel better? Absolutely not. So did not eating help Hannah have a child? Yeah you guessed it, no. So we can learn from this situation friends. Skipping a meal is not the solution here.
There was a day Hannah went to the temple to pray. In Hannahs deep prayer she couldn’t even seem to get the words to leave her mouth. She was pouring her heart out and in such a vulnerable state that even the Priest thought she was drunk. ‘“Must you come here drunk?” he demanded. “Throw away your wine!”’ 1 Samuel 1:14 Hannah prayed to God and made a vow promising if she was blessed with a child she would give her child back to God. God haerd her and he knew her heart and later blessed her with a son (Samuel). It was Hannahs faithful promise that made all the difference. ‘”… and in due time she gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, for she said, “I asked the Lord for him.”’ 1 Samuel 1:20 Hannah gave her son back to God, she knew God had blessed her with a son but her son belonged to God.
God was faithful and merciful with Hannah. He heard her and her anguish and blessed her with what her heart most desired. How many times have we prayed for something we so longed for and promised God we would do something in return? How many times have we not fulfilled our promises? God is always so merciful with us which is so beautiful. Although we fail him day by day because we are not perfect and we are flawed, his love for us remains so true. Just as the Lord was merciful and hears us we must also remember to give back to him. Every part of out lives that we give back to God has the opportunity to prosper even more when we give it back to Him. I believe that we may get so caught up in it all that we may forget where it all came from sometimes. I think it is a start to take an initiative and begin to give back. He has blessed each and every one of our lives so greatly so just imagine the things he can do if we give back to Him.
